Knowledge of the normal anatomy of the SIJ and spine is important when interpreting the associated normal appearance by MRI. Especially the normal appearance of the anatomically rather complex SIJ is important to avoid misinterpretation due to pitfalls by MRI etc., which may be important in the diagnosis of sacroiliitis.
